The Salvation Army Harrisburg is hiring for the Summer Youth Enrichment Program.

This summer day program is open to youth grades pre-K through 8th from the Greater Harrisburg Area. The program is located at Beulah Baptist Church in Steelton (100 Livingston Street).

Staff Training – June 5-9th, 2017

Program Dates – June 12th – August 11th, 2017

All positions require PA Act 153 mandated clearance and background checks:  PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.

GROUP LEADER (Pre-K through 8th grade)

Hours – 7:30 am – 4:00 pm or 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, M-F

The SYE Group Leaders will assist in the daily operations of the Summer Youth Enrichment Program.  Group Leaders are responsible for the assigned participants in their group at all times and other participants when needed and outlined by supervisory staff.  Group Leaders are responsible to manage the basic behavior of their group during learning activities, various special classes, field trips and guest presentations following provided program rules and behavior plans.  Group Leaders must actively participate in all activities in order to model positive participation and cooperation to youth. Group Leaders will also facilitate provided 7 Habits and Nutrition Education curriculum and will teach or assist in teaching a Choice Class. Please indicate age or grade level preference in cover letter.

CAREER EXPLORATION GROUP LEADER – Middle School Boys

Hours – 7:30 am – 4:00 pm or 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, M-F

*Note: We prefer a male for this role

The Career Exploration Group Leader will lead the 7th/8th grade boys group through the SYE program, facilitating prepared lesson plans including the Career Exploration curriculum. This curriculum focuses on job readiness skills, interviewing, resume writing, and education options in high school and beyond. The role includes supervising small-scale field trips with 20 students to area businesses and educational organizations.

KINDERGARTEN READINESS CLASSROOM AIDE

Hours – 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, M-F

The Kindergarten Readiness (KR) Classroom Aide will assist in facilitation of lessons and activities in the KR program, and at times will be responsible for leading lessons. The Classroom Aide will support the Lead Teacher in the functions of the Kindergarten Readiness program. The Classroom Aide will foster a classroom atmosphere that promotes student growth and maintains high academic and developmental standards.

ARTS TEACHER (dance, theater, creative writing, martial arts, etc.)

Hours – 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, 2x/week (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday)

The Arts Teacher will lead and facilitate arts instruction which actively engages the program participants in exploring new outlets for self expression and skill development. The Arts Teacher will develop detailed lesson plans creating an enrichment curriculum with a finished product to be presented at the program Showcase Event.  Past arts classes have included visual arts, drawing, drumming, sign language, martial arts, etc. This position requires curriculum writing.

BRIDGING THE GAP GROUP LEADER

Hours – 7:30 am – 4:00 pm or 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, M-F

The  Bridging the Gap Leader will instruct and facilitate the Bridging the Gap and Too Good for Drugs programs, designed to teach social-emotional and positive life skills to students K-8. The BTG Leader will implement prepared lesson plans  to assigned groups, complete and track assessments, and assist in supervision of students on field trips.

NUTRITION EDUCATION GROUP LEADER

Hours – 7:30 am – 4:00 pm or 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, M-F

The Nutrition Educator will instruct and facilitate the nutrition education program. The Nutrition Educator will implement lesson plans that present program participants with resources and tools that promote a healthy lifestyle.

STEM EDUCATION GROUP LEADER

Hours – 7:30 am – 4:00 pm or 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, M-F

The STEM Education (SE) Group Leader will lead and facilitate STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum which will engage the program participants actively in learning and exploring STEM concepts. The SE Group Leader will implement lesson plans that present program participants with concepts, projects, and experiments for hands-on learning. The SE Group Leader will provide participants with a safe and enjoyable environment in which to learn, complete projects and have fun.  Modeling honest, positive behaviors and practices is absolutely necessary. 

BEHAVIOR SUPPORT AIDE

Hours – 9:00 am – 2:30 pm M-F

The Behavior Support Aide will work to support specific students in behavior intervention and support during classroom time, recreational periods, and field trips. The Aide will work closely with the program administration to determine goals and behavior plans. The Aide will adhere to program behavior policies and structure, including the use of positive language in coaching students. Must be prepared to work with all program ages (Pre-K – 8th grade). Experience with behavior support or intervention required.
