Lehigh Valley Toy Drive Partners Help Salvation Army Provide A Merry Christmas
Allentown, PA – For decades, The Salvation Army in the Lehigh Valley has had the benefit of partnering with the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation.
This year, 6,270 children, aged newborn to 12 years old, qualified to receive toys through this program. Each child received two gifts and a stocking stuffer for a total of 18,810 toys supplied by the foundation to The Salvation Army corps community centers in the Lehigh Valley. Additionally, the foundation provided each Salvation Army center with a large quantity of diapers and wrapping paper to distribute in the community.
The Toys for Tots Foundation has the same goal each year which is to obtain as many toys as possible from the generosity of the community to help less fortunate children. A recent study shows the poverty rate in the Lehigh Valley to be between 20 to 25 percent of the population.
The Toys for Tots partnership with The Salvation Army would not be possible without the generosity and support of the community. Beyond financial support and donated gifts, volunteer's make this program a reality. Many local corporations such as PPL, Air Products, Bank of America, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Cedar Crest College, and others have provided volunteer groups to help pack and distribute the toys. One of the most significant elements of the partnership between the United States Marie Corps Toys for Tots Foundation is the connection of their mission with that of The Salvation Army's. Together, the organizations play an integral part of bringing the joy of Christmas to thousands of children across the Lehigh Valley.
