List below you will find a variety of services that The Salvation Army of Reading provides which are designed to meet the needs of our community.

*Monthly Food Distribution-  Last Thursday of Each Month at 4:00 pm


 

Family Services

  • Utilities Assistance:
    • CAP (UGI)
    • Operation Share (UGI),
    • Dollar Energy (water, gas, electric),
    • SafeLink (Cell Phone), UTEP (Phone)
    • Emergency Food and Shelter Program – EFSP
      • All Utilities (Gas, Propane, Oil, Electric, Water)
  • Emergency Solutions Grant – ESG
  • Homelessness Prevention
    • Assistance to prevent homelessness through rental assistance, mortgage assistance, utility assistance to prevent shut-off
  • Rapid Rehousing (non-CoC)
    • Assistance with rent & utilities to move verified homeless individuals into private housing
  • SHARE Emergency Assistance
    • Fund can be utilized for any emergency assistance except funeral related expenses.  Typical assistance includes
      • prescriptions,
      • utility security deposits,
      • clothing vouchers,
      • shoe vouchers,
      • bus pass for employment purposes,
      • small household repairs, etc. 

*Due to limited funds, all cases are evaluated on an individual basis

  • Monthly Food Distribution
    • Last Thursday of every month at 4pm – everyone is welcome
  • Thanksgiving Distribution
    • 750 turkeys and grocery orders
      • Distribution occurs Tuesday before Thanksgiving - No pre-registration necessary, first come, first serve.
  • Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Family
    • Several local businesses and groups adopt families in order to provide a full Thanksgiving meal.  This distribution occurs the Monday before Thanksgiving.  Families are identified throughout September and October.
  • Christmas
    • Angel Tree
      • Provide warm winter clothing, toys and other needs to children ages birth – 12 yrs old. 
      • Families sign-up for assistance throughout the month of October through an in-person interview with trained volunteers.
        • Always seeking volunteers to help take applications
  • Angel Tree Seniors & Veterans

    • Provides seniors and veterans with small needs that they may have
    • Food Distribution
    • A food only component for individuals with older children or no children at all to receive a food order for Christmas.
    • Adopt-a-Family
    • Families with unique circumstances are identified and referred to other local agencies and groups wishing to meet the entire needs of the family beyond toys for the children for Christmas and food.
  • Sheetz Christmas Program
    • Families with unique circumstances are identified and referred for a separate application.  Sheetz stores provides a Christmas party with snacks, games/activities and toys for all children in the family (<12 yrs)
