Shatorah Wilson, Resident Advisor

A little less than a year ago, Shatorah got word from a friend about a job opening in our Shelter. Shatorah eagerly applied, was hired and hasn't looked back since.

"I like helping people," she says. "So when I heard about the job, knowing what the Salvation Army does for people, I jumped on it."

Shatorah came on board with an open mind and more importantly, an open heart. "I know what it's like to be down and out," she says. "That's what drives me to connect with people who need help. And working for an organization that is motivated only by helping people…" Shatorah stops and takes a moment to swallow the lump in her throat. "Well, it's a dream come true."

Cymanda Robinson, Shelter Program Director, is most impressed with Shatorah. "She goes above and beyond, doing whatever she can to help," Cymanda says proudly. "Because she is motivated by the desire to help, I see great potential in Shatorah.  With such a dedicated staff, who have become family, I see wonderful things for the future of all our clients."

"We aren't just staff working a job", Shatorah echoes. "We are a family. We support each other. When the work gets emotional and overwhelming, we lift each other up and remind ourselves of the mission."
