SALVATION ARMY HOSTS ANNUAL HARVEST AUCTION FUNDRAISER BENEFITING MONROE COUNTY PROGRAMS

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA (October 16, 2014) - The Monroe County Chapter of the Salvation Army is once again holding its annual Harvest Festival and Auction at Stroudsmoor Country Inn on Thursday, October 16 starting at 6:00 pm at their Terra View facility. Dinner tickets for the event are $40 per person. Major James Gingrich, commanding officer of the East Stroudsburg Citadel, said, "This event has become well known for its quantity and selection of auction items which generate thousands of dollars to our chapter's special event fundraising for the year. All the money we collect goes towards local programs and provides comprehensive assistance with meals, food baskets and shelter to thousands of our County residents."

Last holiday season the East Stroudsburg Salvation Army provided over 1200 families with grocery orders which fed thousands of Monroe County Residents. The Toys for Joy, Toys for Tots and Angle Tree gift donations provided toys to children and ongoing, the Salvation Army feeds over 400 Monroe County families monthly. Across the nation, The Salvation Army served more than 60,000,000 meals to those in need. This year, the East Stroudsburg Corps is expected to provide more than 70,000 hot meals to hungry men, women and children and provide grants for rent, utility assistance, medicine and food for the many families in desperate need.

Live and silent auction items for the event include vacations, restaurant certificates, collectibles, antiques, gift baskets, art, coins, golf foursomes, gift cards, and billboard advertising packages - to name just a few. Gingrich continues, "It is the mission of the Salvation Army of Monroe County to preserve human dignity while empowering people to reach their potential through honoring heritage, strengthening family values and meeting human needs. In difficult economic times, when thousands of neighbors are finding it hard to feed their families, the need for our services continues to be under even greater pressure."

Reservations for the Harvest Festival fundraiser can be made by calling 570-421-3050. The silent auction will begin at 6:00 pm with the live auction at 8:00 pm. Dinner will be served at 7:00 pm. Gingrich concludes, "We are accepting auction items and welcome the community to join us for a very good cause. The economy continues to fluctuate and when that happens rising numbers of people find themselves caught short. By attending this event you will be helping us continue to service those in the most need in our community."
