Every child deserves a home where their needs are met, where they feel safe, and where they can thrive. That home isn’t a reality for thousands of Pennsylvania children who can no longer reside with their birth families and need a foster family to step in temporarily, or an adoptive family to commit to them permanently. With a variety of foster care and adoption options and expert services to support families, The Salvation Army Children’s Services welcomes you to join us in "Doing the Most Good" for kids.

Learn About Our Services

Adoption Facts: There are nearly 3,000 foster children in Pennsylvania waiting for a forever family. Most of them are over 8 years old and many are teens. The Salvation Army Children's Services helps match families with a child and guides them through the adoption process, usually at little to no cost to the family.

Our Mission & Ministry

Our Vision

Guided by faith in God and love for all people, The Salvation Army has served the physical and spiritual needs of humankind since 1865. This foundation is what motivates us to do the work that we do. Today we continue this mission in over 100 countries. Beginning at Ivy House in Philadelphia, The Salvation Army Children's Services has been caring for the special needs of children since 1915. We serve Southeast Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley area, providing foster care, visit coaching, parent education, adoption, and post-adoption services.

Who Are the Children We Serve?

We offer our services without discrimination and with the best interest of the children, we serve at the forefront of all we do. As a foster parent or adoptive parent with our program, you will receive close, personalized from caring staff and ongoing support throughout your journey. Our families are able to help the children placed in their care heal and thrive with the knowledge and skills they learn through significant and ongoing training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). TBRI is a trauma-informed parenting intervention that recognizes the impact that trauma has on the brain development of children. Through the TBRI principles of connecting, empowering, and correcting, our families promote attachment, trust, and healing for the children they are caring for.
