When a child doesn't have enough to eat, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion. They becomes embarrassed about their situation and pull away from friends to hide their shame. They loses the energy to play. They can't stay focused in school and fall behind in classes. Hunger not only takes a physical toll on a child, it causes great emotional damage as well.
It is difficult to believe that in our land of plenty, a country where billions of pounds of food are wasted each year, children and adults don't have enough to eat. Unfortunately, there are families in our area suffering from true hunger.
The Salvation Army is on the frontlines of the fight against hunger, providing food packages and warm meals to people in need, but we are unable to meet the high demand for assistance during these troubling economic times. Requests for help with food are up 20 percent from this time last year.
Consider this: for the cost of dinner at a restaurant or a month's worth of snack foods you could feed an impoverished family for one week.
Please consider partnering with The Salvation Army to ease the pain of hungry community members.
